Baltic Nest Institute continues the research started during the MARE - Marine Research on Eutrophication - research programme. The Mistra-finance MARE-project (1999 - 2006) developed a decision support system called the NEST model. Baltic NEST continues to be maintained and developed within the Baltic Nest Institute (BNI) with branches in Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
BNI Denmark involves two departments under the faculty of Natural Sciences at Aarhus University. Watershed and marine sciences are carried out at Department of Biosciences and atmospheric and policy analyses are carried out at Department of Environmental Science.
BNI Denmark is managed by Berit Hasler and Jacob Carstensen, and gathers some 15 scientist in Denmark.
